چکیده

Abstract We present the fourth Open Gravitational-wave Catalog (4-OGC) of binary neutron star (BNS), black hole (BBH), and star–black (NSBH) mergers. The catalog includes observations from 2015 to 2020 covering first through third observing runs (O1, O2, O3a, O3b) Advanced LIGO Virgo. updated seven BBH mergers that were not previously reported with high significance during O3b for a total 94 observations: 90 BBHs, 2 NSBHs, BNSs. most confident new detection, GW200318_191337, has component masses 49.1 − 12.0 + 16.4 M ⊙ ${31.6}_{-11.6}^{+12.0}{M}_{\odot };$?> 31.6 11.6 ; its redshift ${0.84}_{-0.35}^{+0.4}$?> 0.84 0.35 0.4 (90% credible interval) may make it distant merger so far. estimate rate sources, assuming power-law mass distribution containing an additive Gaussian peak, be ${16.5}_{-6.2}^{+10.4}({25.0}_{-8.0}^{+12.6})$?> 16.5 6.2 10.4 ( 25.0 8.0 12.6 stretchy="false">) Gpc −3 yr −1 at z = 0 (0.2). For BNS NSBH we ${200}_{-148}^{+309}$?> 200 148 309 ${19}_{-14}^{+30}$?> 19 14 30 , respectively, known sources are representative population. provide reference parameter estimates each these using up-to-date model accounting instrumental calibration uncertainty. corresponding data release also our full set subthreshold candidates.

Gravitational Waves from Binary Black Hole Mergers inside Stars.

We present results from a controlled numerical experiment investigating the effect of stellar density gas on the coalescence of binary black holes (BBHs) and the resulting gravitational waves (GWs). This investigation is motivated by the proposed stellar core fragmentation scenario for BBH formation and the associated possibility of an electromagnetic counterpart to a BBH GW event. We employ fu...

Gravitational waves from eccentric intermediate mass binary black hole mergers

Owing to the difficulty of direct observation, mergers of intermediate-mass black hole binaries are relatively less understood compared to stellar-mass binaries; however, the gravitational waves from their last few orbits and ringdown fall in the band of ground-based detectors. Because the typical source is expected to circularize prior to entering LIGO or VIRGO’s range, inspiral searches conce...

Radio Counterparts of Compact Binary Mergers Detectable in Gravitational Waves: a Simulation for an Optimized Survey

Mergers of binary neutron stars and black hole–neutron star binaries produce gravitational-wave(GW) emission and outflows with significant kinetic energies. These outflows result in radio emissions through synchrotron radiation. We explore the detectability of these synchrotron-generated radio signals by follow-up observations of GW merger events lacking a detection of electromagnetic counterp...

Measuring speed of gravitational waves by observations of photons and neutrinos from compact binary mergers and supernovae

Detection of gravitational waves (GWs) provides us with an opportunity to test general relativity in strong and dynamical regimes of gravity. One of the tests is checking whether GW propagates with the speed of light or not. This test is crucial because the velocity of GW has not ever been directly measured. Propagation speed of a GW can deviate from the speed of light due to the modification o...

Gravitational Waves from Compact Bodies

1 According to general relativity theory, compact concentrations of energy (e.g., neutron stars and black holes) should warp spacetime strongly, and whenever such an energy concentration changes shape, it should create a dynamically changing spacetime warpage that propagates out through the Universe at the speed of light. This propagating warpage is called gravitational radiation—a name that ar...
